About Extension Entomology, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service
We are located throughout the State and can provide advice on control of urban, structural, landscape, garden, veterinary and agricultural pests, and pests that are threats to human health. Our information is backed by science and research at Texas A&M and other universities and is made practical and relevant by Extension Entomologists, educators or agents who work in each county, right where you live.
In broad terms we are divided into urban entomology, veterinary/medical entomology, and agricultural entomology, although our personnel can, and frequently do, cross these lines. This flexibility comes in part because we can call on the expertise of any other member of the project group.
County-based personnel serve 1 - 4 counties and are either Extension Agents IPM (integrated pest management) or Extension Program Specialists. Extension District level personnel and those in College Station serve a wider area, usually many counties or have statewide responsibilities. Together we can provide local service and deep expertise for insect pest problems. We strive to use IPM techniques where possible. Wikipedia has a good summary of IPM principles and practices.
The Texas A&M Department of Entomology was founded in 1899. Read about our history.
